Bars and nightlife in Courchevel

There is no shortage of places to go for a few drinks and some live music after a day on the mountain

featured in Nightlife guide Updated

Courchevel wouldn't be the resort it is without a good dose of après-ski to end the day!

Whether you prefer to soak up the late afternoon sun with a quiet glass of French wine or dance on the tables in your ski boots, beer jug in hand, Courchevel has plenty of great spots when the lifts shut for the day.

Made up of several small villages, the glitziest and most expensive is Courchevel 1850, and it will come as no surprise that the nightlife here comes at a price. Not only are drinks prices scarily high in many establishments, but only a handful of bars are actually worthy of a mention. It is actually Courchevel Moriond at 1650 that has become the unofficial after dark hub of Courchevel. You'll find a wide array of bars to suit every taste with après bands, rustic French bars and DJs filling the dance floor 'til the early hours. Le Praz and La Tania also have their own selection of nightlife that should easily see you through your holiday.

With a lively and vibrant après-ski scene, Courchevel has plenty of spots opening their doors to welcome you off the pistes.

La Tania
Ski Lodge has a great south facing terrace and an extensive drinks menu. Indoors you'll find the bar and live music where you can boogie, jump and shout/sing to your heart's content. Finish your Thursday with a final ski down to La Tania and experience the one and only Bring Your Sisters. Be warned, it’s going to get sweaty.

Worth checking out is Fire and Ice, its sunny decked bar at Hotel Portetta is where you can sit in the sun during a warm afternoon, and if it gets a bit chilly grab a blanket and nestle under the heat lamps. Excellent vin chaud and ice shots are on offer depending on your mood. Be there during happy hour from 16:30 to 19:00 and you’ll be in for a treat with free stone baked pizza for everyone.

One of the few places to offer a lively après in 1850, La Cantine is in the former space of the legendary Ku-de-ta, and is just as worthy of a mention. You can ski straight onto their sunny deck and then head inside for a jug or two as the afternoon disappears into evening. Later it becomes a late night drinking spot where anyone and everyone can let loose.

Late nights

If you're looking for some late night fun you're in luck, there are several bars and clubs in Courchevel that stay open until the early hours of the morning.

Courchevel Moriond
Everybody from everywhere will be in Funky Fox come the early hours. Every Tuesday they host their usual DJ sets, and on Friday nights they showcase an array of musical talent with everything from Blues and Saxophone, to Beat Boxing and Drum and Bass. A selection of music including local bands and DJ’s keep ‘The Fox’ partying every single night. Perfectly placed in 1650, you can almost fall out of the bar onto the bus to make you way home. It's open until 02:00.

Le Praz
The only place to be as the evening grows dark and the snow starts to fall, L’Elephant is open until 02:00, so get yourself involved at the front and sing along to the live music or hide away in the comfy booths at the back.

La Tania
Ski Lodge just about manages to contain the party. Everyone, yes everyone, will be in there from the moment the skiing stops. If a big après and delicious dinner is not enough, they have live bands, DJ’s and a drinks selection to suit. You might not quite make first lifts after a night here though.

No late night out would be complete without a visit to the hot spot for party seekers, Les Caves de Courchevel, a glitzy club full of the fashionable set. They hold themed nights throughout the week hosted by famous DJs. Open from midnight until 05:00 throughout winter. There's a modern French bar set in the back of the La Luge Concept store, La Luge is a secret spot to enjoy a drink at all hours of the day, and night. Open until 02:00, you'll find a chilled atmosphere, sunny balcony and reasonably priced drinks, it attracts holidaymakers and locals alike.

You can enjoy bowling, apéros and tapas or dinner and depending on what time of day or evening you may catch the DJ tunes.

Live music

Live music is not that hard to find in Courchevel. From the smallest bar to the swanky hotel lounges, there's always something on. Specific information regarding weekly line ups can be easily found by simply looking at any of the numerous information boards around resort, where each of the individual bars will post their weekly programmes and promotions.

Courchevel Village
Formerly Baroeuf, Le Caterail promises live music every Thursday from 22:00, describing itself as a Vodka bar perhaps a little tasting might be in order.

La Tania
The Ski Lodge's more sophisticated sister bar, La Taiga serves cocktails in a relaxed setting with a roaring fire. Live music plays on a Sunday night, and great food keeps this place popular with a slightly older clientele. Right at the food of the piste, the Chrome Bar does possibly the cheapest burgers in resort, and they're pretty decent too, making it a great choice for an evening meal. Drinks are reasonable and there's live music to keep everyone entertained. Ski directly up to the Pub Le Ski Lodge, this traditional English pub right at the base of the slopes in La Tania promises a lively après-ski vibe with themed nights and live music. If there is a big game on it will be showing here.
