Here we are back for another winter season with a snow report and Courchevel is already looking in cracking shape. Getting excited for the resort opening on 5 December for the winter season and staying open until 19 April 2026. It’s properly cold up there with temperatures around -6°C today and the snow is stacking up nicely with around 140cm at the top and 90cm at resort level. There’s another dump of snow on the way with about 13cm forecast for Sunday and temperatures dipping to around -7°C by Sunday evening which should help everything settle and stay light and dry. It really does feel like winter has arrived early in the Three Valleys.
Across the Alps the first big dump of the season has done its job, bringing anything from 30cm to well over a metre of fresh snow depending on where you look. The Western Alps have been one of the winners and Courchevel is right in that sweet spot. A northerly flow has kept things cold and added a bit more snow on the higher slopes with drifting in exposed spots. The next few days look quieter with dry weather on the way as high pressure settles in. Skies will clear at times and the freezing levels stay low, so the snowpack should stay in great condition. As we head into the weekend, there may be a bit more cloud floating through with snow in the forecast for Sunday.
What’s new this winter in Courchevel
Courchevel has plenty of new things lined up for winter. The biggest update is the brand new Chenus gondola, rebuilt from the ground up with ten-seater cabins, a smoother line and a much more convenient base station right on the snowfront. It doubles the old capacity so you can expect shorter queues and a quicker hop up to the Loze sector. At the top you’ll now find the new Chenus picnic room, a warm spot to take a break and enjoy the view. Over on Saulire, the cable car has been upgraded with panoramic cabins offering even bigger window views of the Vanoise peaks.
There are improvements down on the slopes too. The Lac Bleu tow rope now pulls you across that frustrating flat stretch near the Bouc Blanc, so no more pushing with poles at the end of the blue from the Col de la Loze. Carabosse, the ski and fun zone, has moved to the summit of Courchevel Moriond and the old area below has been turned into a brand new green run called Pralinette, perfect for beginners. The Canyon de Yepa fun slope has also had a refresh with new themed features and surprises hidden all the way down.
For families the Western Ski Park has had a bit of a makeover as well with new equipment and chill out spots. And down in Courchevel 1850 there are three new magic carpets for little ones learning to ski, replacing the old vintage cabins that many will remember from ESF sessions.
