Snow Report, 31 December 2025

By Nye Erskine, Updated

Courchevel is closing out the year with a settled winter feel, with cold air in the valley and the upper slopes looking clean and well filled in. The villages are busy with New Year visitors, but on the mountain the skiing feels calm and well organised. The season so far has built steadily rather than dramatically, and conditions right now reflect that, with reliable snow across most of the area and the best quality found higher up.

Snow and Weather Summary

Snow depths across Courchevel are currently around 40 to 70 cm at resort level depending on which village you are staying in, increasing to roughly 120 to 160 cm on the upper mountain. There has been little fresh snowfall in recent days, so skiing is based on a consolidated base that has been well maintained by grooming teams. Daytime temperatures in the villages have been hovering close to freezing, with colder overnight lows helping the pistes refreeze and stay consistent, while temperatures at altitude remain comfortably below zero throughout the day. Freezing levels have generally been low, often around 900 to 1,300 m, which is helping preserve snow quality across much of the ski area. Winds have mostly been light to moderate, with occasional stronger gusts on exposed ridges, but overall lift operations have remained stable. On the snow, pistes are firm and grippy early in the day, softening slightly on sunnier slopes by late morning, while higher and north facing runs keep a colder, chalky feel into the afternoon. Lower runs back toward the villages can become more polished later in the day, especially on busy return routes.

Outlook & What’s On

The outlook through New Year remains cold and largely dry, with settled conditions expected and no significant snowfall signals in the immediate forecast. This should keep piste conditions consistent and predictable, particularly higher up, while off piste options will remain limited without fresh snow unless you stick to sheltered terrain. New Year’s Eve in Courchevel includes a full programme of village events, with live music, festive entertainment and fireworks organised by the local tourist office across several of the villages. Torchlight descents are also planned, adding to the end of year atmosphere across the resort.

Snow Takeaway

Over the next few days, the best skiing will be found higher up and on north facing pistes where snow quality stays most consistent. Aim to ski lower runs earlier in the day before they firm up, and expect reliable, well prepared on piste conditions while the settled winter weather continues.
