Snow Report, 5 December 2025

It is beginning to look seriously wintry here in Courchevel. The mountains have put on their white coats again and the cold has settled properly into the valley. With the lifts opening this Saturday 6 December, the excitement is building fast.

Early snowfall has been far better than average and several locals are saying this is the strongest start to the season they have seen in about ten years. It feels like winter has arrived early and arrived with purpose.

Snow and Weather Summary

The past week has seen regular cold temperatures across the Three Valleys, which has helped preserve the natural snow that has fallen. The upper slopes in particular are looking very encouraging for early December. Courchevel has already built a solid base at altitude and the latest forecasts suggest a light top up of fresh snow between now and Sunday. Even small amounts will help freshen the pistes, and cold nights are expected to keep the surface crisp.

Temperatures have been consistently below freezing higher up the mountain, often well below zero overnight. At resort level it has been hovering around freezing during the day, dropping lower again at night. The freezing level has remained low all week and looks set to stay that way through the weekend, which is ideal for maintaining snow quality.

Although the coverage is impressive for the time of year, remember that this is still early season. Off piste areas will not have been skied much and the snowpack can be unstable in places. There may be thin spots on exposed faces, so take care if you head away from marked runs.

Snow Takeaway

Courchevel opens for the season this Saturday and the resort feels alive again. The pistes are being prepared, the lifts are being tested and the Christmas atmosphere is starting to settle in. Restaurants and bars are getting ready for the first skiers of the winter and there is a real sense of anticipation in the air.

This weekend marks the first events of the season and visitors can expect a festive welcome on the mountain. With the landscape already covered in white and the snow in better shape than it has been this early in years, it is shaping up to be a very promising opening.
