What's On in Courchevel summer 2018

Why summer is a great time to visit Courchevel

featured in News & reviews Author Rachel Wilson, Courchevel Reporter Updated

Courchevel is well known for its glorious long ski slopes and fantastic off-piste in winter, but when the winter season ends the resort doesn't just shut its doors for six months.

During the summer months, Courchevel turns into a beautiful Alpine getaway where you can escape to nature and also get involved in some awesome outdoor activities.

What's On in Courchevel summer 2018

Free lifts

This summer in Courchevel the lifts that run will be completely free from July 7th to August 31st. This means you have access to some of the most amazing views across the Three Valleys from the top of Saulire. Whether you are a mountain biker, paraglider, or just wanting to access the summits to have a picnic, you have ease of access from Verdons gondola, then hop onto Saulire cable car to reach 2700m. You can also take the Le Praz and La Tania gondolas for free, where you can hike or bike up to Courchevel. All of the lifts are free, and open every day apart from Saturday.

Outdoor activities

Courchevel remains a super active place in the summer months too, and there is plenty to get you out of your comfort zone. There are via ferrata routes suitable for all levels around the valley that are fully equipped and safe, where you can get your head in the clouds and enjoy the stunning views of Lac de la Rosiere. Once you’ve mastered via ferrata and want to challenge yourself, then hit the rock faces of Croix des Verdons. Mountain biking (known as VTT in France) is increasing in popularity in Courchevel and there are plenty of mixed ability downhill tracks and family-friendly trails for everyone to enjoy. Along with biking trails there are loads of energetic hiking paths that will let you experience the mountains and observe flora and fauna. If you are not confident going alone, then local guides are available for all of the outdoor activities.

Cheese-making workshop, Verbier - Centre

Alpine cheese making

The alpine pastures that were covered in snow during winter wake up with the sunshine and warm temperatures and start to bloom with alpine flowers, and the mountain cattle take residence for 100 days producing the essential ingredient to make the traditional Beaufort cheese. You can visit one of the high alpine farms at Plan du la Sah and Ariondaz, and see the hard work the farmers do to produce what is known locally as ‘white gold’.

Golf

On Verdons' pasture, the piste is transformed into a nine-hole golf course, with putting and pitching greens open from June until October. It’s the perfect way to improve your hole-in-one skills whilst being surrounded by beautiful mountains.

Aquamotion Centre, Moriond 1650

Relax and rewind at Aquamotion

The awesome swimming complex that sits between Courchevel Village and Courchevel Moriond is open for the summer months. It offers indoor and outdoor heated pools for relaxing, and a 25m length pool for lane swimming. There are slides, saunas, steam rooms, hammams, scuba diving, and even an indoor surf wave. Not only are there water activities, there is also an artificial climbing wall and a fitness gym. Aquamotion has something for everyone to enjoy and is a great option for when the summer weather decides to take a turn for the worst.

Le Namaste Chalet, Courchevel 1850 double room

Cheap chalet holidays

Courchevel is well known for being an exclusive luxury ski resort in winter, however the price of accommodation in summer seriously drops. You can find some bargains in the resorts like La Tania and Le Praz. Self-catered chalets and apartments are readily available for summer bookings. In July and August, more bars and restaurants are open, and there are some open all year round, like The Drop Inn in Le Praz.
