One of the most exciting bits of ski gear is about to hit the market and all the technology has been undergoing testing right here in the 3 Valleys ski area.

Lumiplan, based in La Bathie, Savoie have been working in association with the 3 Valleys and Canadian company Recon Instruments to launch the smartest pair of ski goggles yet.

Over the past couple of years we've seen the growth of 'smart goggles' displaying speed of descent but these new goggles will also give you data such as snow depths and distances. The new product will eventually be able to take advantage of Lumiplan’s work with resorts, developing ski flow management programmes to allow them to encourage skiers to shift to less crowded pistes or to alert them to queues at chairlifts, for example. Weather and other information can be looped in these systems in real time.

A key feature for resorts is that the product will not be exclusive, but can be clipped onto goggles.

The goggles are expected to hit the market next year and will cost around €400.
