Another Perfect Week in 3 Valleys
Fresh Snow & Blue Skies!
What a beautiful week we're having in the 3 Valleys!
We've seen almost textbook conditions so far, with over 30cms of fresh snow over Monday. Then we woke up on Tuesday to the clearest of blue skies, freshly pisted runs and light, fluffy off-piste.
Lifts were a little slow to open on Tuesday morning as the pisteurs worked hard to blast and get the resort safe for us all to enjoy. But once they did, it was time for some fun!
Temperatures at the moment are warm. It's always deceptive in the mountains. When the forecast says 1C, it's going to be hot! As in, sat on the terrace in the sun for lunch, hot. So don't forget the suncream this week!
Snow Report
The dump of snow on Monday really livened things up in the 3 Valleys. The pistes feel soft but well packed. However, they are starting to 'lump' up with moguls by lunchtime and early afternoon - after all, it is ½ term week. So I'd recommend early morning for soft, groomed pistes, then lunchtime or late afternoon for quieter pistes.
The atmosphere in the resort is also pretty relaxed and fun, especially considering there are a lot of people in town and on the slopes. There seems to be less of the high-speed skiing that was causing unnecessary accidents at the start of the season. This is an excellent time to also mention familiarising yourself with the piste code of safety - if you don't know it, have a look here.
Snow Forecast
The next few days are looking quite settled with clear skies, but the temperature is spiking today (Wednesday) and then dropping over Thursday and Friday to -10C. However, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are warming up - looking hot at 2C!
Clouds are circling on Friday, and we might see a slight flutter of snow. There's 1cm on the forecast so far, so nothing to get excited about right now, but it might increase, so keep watching the resorts.
Jen's Top Tips
- The temperature is all over the place this week, so keep an eye on the forecast. Also, layers are your friend, so you can take off or put more on as needed.
- Avoid the crowds as much as possible you're going to want to get out at 'off peak' times, that is, 9-10am, 12-2pm and 3-5pm when the mountain is noticeably quieter.
- Pay attention to the ski school hot spots and avoid them if you can. If you can't avoid them, just try to schedule it, so you aren't hitting these places in the same timeframe as them.
- Make the most of half-term weeks by checking out all the extra activities and fun things the resort offers.
- Always check the avalanche risk and don't head off-piste if you don't have
