Mountain Bike Trails in Courchevel — 5 of Our Favourites

Discover the top Courchevel biking routes

Find loads of top tips and local insights in our Courchevel Mountain Biking Guide.

Courchevel mountain biking trails

1. Blue MTB trails

Location
Courchevel 1850

With two downhill specific trails, one cross country trail and one blue 'Funny Track' there is plenty for the beginner mountain biker to get their teeth into.

Funny Track Bellecote

Departing from the top of the Verdons gondola this easy graded trail is 3km long and descends 304m. This is a good place to test your skills, agility and speed. These single track downhill routes are aimed at children and families.

La Derotchu

Leaving from the Courchevel Tourist Office in 1850, this trail is 4.1km long and takes you on the 222m descent down into Moriond. With 42m ascent this is not a complete downhill trail, however a good introduction to mountain biking and a great way to get between the towns.

Lou Virolets

An easy downhill trail through the forests of La Tania that can be accessed from the top of the La Tania gondola, this run is more of a test of your beginner's endurance at 6.6km in length and with a descent of 513m. If you're good on this trail then maybe it is time to try out those red runs!

Boucle Courchevel La Croisette/ Epicea

This cross country trail is based down in La Tania and is a very pleasant trail through the forests. Graded as an easy trail with a length of 6.3km and ascent and descent of just 170m this is definitely one to get you used to riding on trails and away from the busy roads, a great way to explore the area and enjoy the wildlife.

2. About mountain bike trails in Courchevel

Location
Courchevel 1850

With a good number of marked mountain bike routes, Courchevel has plenty to keep the summer bikers happy. Approved by the Fédération Française de Cyclisme, the area has a selection of cross-country circuits and downhill descents that you can get access to using the lift system.

If you want to get off the beaten track and discover other scenery, the professionals of the Espace VTT organise excursions for all levels and on a variety of terrain and types of bike.

Using the summer lift system you can follow a number of downhill trails to Le Praz, La Tania, Brides-les-Bains and Moutiers. But for those who prefer to use their pedals once in a while there is a mountain bike run covering all of the Three Valleys and 117km of signposted single track, dropping 3,970m in height...and climbing at least some that! If you don’t fancy doing the full route under your own steam the you can always take advantage of a few lifts along the way.

Crossing over into neighbouring Méribel via the Saulire lift gives you access to many more trails and access also to Val Thorens and trails in the Belleville Valley. Information of which lifts are open and on which days can be found on the Three Valleys bike trail map.

Information can also be found for the free shuttle bus and other bus services that you can use to get between the various lifts and towns in the Three Valleys.

Red Trails mountain biker

3. Red MTB trails

Location
Courchevel 1850

Red trails with access over to Méribel via the Saulire cable car, then a new valley offers up some new trails for you to progress on to.

Funny Track Les Verdons

Running alongside the blue graded 'Funny Track Bellecote' trail, this is another family trail designed to test your skill level and agility in a downhill environment. A good trail once you are ready to graduate from the blue, the trail is 3km long and descends 298m.

Le Borat

Starting at the Tourist Office in Courchevel 1850 and taking you all the way down to le Praz this red downhill trail, marked as difficult is 2.5km in length and drops 287m during the run over varied terrain. With a variety of open single track and narrower forest trails this is a nice mix and a good way to get between the towns.

Green mountain biking trail in Courchevel

4. Green MTB trails

Location
Courchevel 1850

Although there are no officially graded green trails in the Courchevel Valley there are plenty of areas for families to cycle. For example the lake areas of Le Praz and Courchevel 1850, or the ski de fond tracks around resort. If you are just looking to get out and stretch your legs on a bike rather than hiking up a great big hill then exploring the villages by bike is a great way to do it...ending with a dip in the lake perhaps or just an ice cream in the sunshine!

The Piou-piou is a perfect green trail for first experiences of down hill mountain biking. Mainly over meadows in the ski area and the final section winds through a forest. The route includes footbridges and banked bends but no jumps!

Black Trails mountain biker

5. Black MTB trails

Location
Courchevel 1850

Not known for its extreme downhill biking Courchevel, its black graded DH trail follows a portion of the circuit of the 3VTT (an endurance route that covers the entire Three Valleys area on bike).

Beginning at the top of the Saulire cable car, the technically challenging and very difficult descent is 15km long, taking you all the way to the bottom of the La Tania gondola, with a fantastic 1,430m of descent. Not for the faint hearted but certainly a great way to travel the length of Courchevel Valley.
