Late yesterday morning a group of Canadian skiers were caught in an avalanche in an off piste area in Courchevel called the "Vallée des Avals."

The avalanche was reported to be around 200 metres wide by around 30 metres across and rescue teams were quickly on the scene as they feared a secondary avalanche.

One of the group sustained broken ribs and was taken to hospital by the PGHM. A second person was partially buried, lost his skis but was relatively unharmed.

All of the group were equipped with avalanche transceivers and search equipment.
