La Boulotte restaurant review

A small, friendly restaurant with reasonably priced food

featured in Restaurant reviews Author Rachel Wilson, Courchevel Reporter Updated

La Boulotte is a cosy bar come restaurant located in the centre of Courchevel Moriond. It’s an extremely popular pit stop for hungry skiers and snowboarders and is well known for its hearty food with a menu that will get your tummy rumbling.

I first heard about this place on my first ski season by a good friend, who told me that their wraps aren’t to be missed. Always on the lookout for a decent lunch, it didn’t take my long to get hooked on this place. It’s quite a small restaurant with 6 tables of varying sizes, which you may have to share with fellow skiers as it does get very busy.

The service was excellent and the waitress was able to squeeze us on the end of the raised seated bench and promptly explained what the specials were that day. The rest of the menu is displayed on small wooden clipboards displayed on each table.

I ordered the falafel wrap with a side portion of chips. All the food is homemade by the friendly owner Katie and is served up fresh and promptly. You can see her working (and singing!) in the open kitchen from the dining area. The falafel wrap is a delightful change from the regional cheese dishes. It is stuffed with crispy red cabbage, fresh lettuce and garlic mayonnaise and tastes delicious. All the wraps are priced at 14 euros and chips are 5 euros. They are very filling and I nearly couldn’t finish it all!

The ambience of this place is relaxed and laid back with a sociable atmosphere. The waitresses are chatty and outgoing making you feel at home. The décor is very homely, it has a mainly wooden interior with antique skis and vintage style posters hung up. There are also photographs pinned up of crazy après ski sessions and the owner's dog who likes to roam from table to table. He is a very friendly pooch though, don’t worry!

This restaurant is suitable for groups or couples looking for a chilled out, tasty breakfast or lunch that is not overpriced and will fill you up ready for the slopes. The place is ideal for a quick bite due to its rapid service or you can take your time and enjoy a few beers or glasses of wine. It stands out from the other restaurants in Courchevel Moriond due to its British style menu. Katie prepares and cooks lovely homecooked food that is something a little different from the usual pizza and Savoyard restaurants. Typical specials on the menu can include curry, fish and chips and homemade burgers.

There are a couple of free car parking spaces available opposite the restaurant on the ‘Rue de Marquis’ or you can park right next door at the ‘Cimes Blanches’ car park where the first hour is free. If you have skied into Courchevel Moriond, then you can access ‘Rue de Marquis’ road by heading right, away from Ariondaz gondola station and taking the steps down past the crèche. You will find La Boutlotte on the left squeezed in between ‘Le Bubble Bar’ and ‘La Table de Marie’ restaurant; opposite the Spar supermarket.

It is open from Monday through to Saturday and you can order breakfast, such as bacon sandwiches, from 10:00 with lunch being served until 15:00. Evening bar service resumes at 17:00 with live bands playing throughout the week. Reservations cannot be made due to the small amount of table space but the whole place may be able to be booked under special circumstances.

I shall definitely return to La Boulotte as you can always rely on a tasty, satisfying meal that doesn’t break the bank.
