featured in Meet the locals Author Ellie Mahoney, Courchevel Editor Updated

What better way to get to know a resort better than to speak to one of the locals who has been living and working in Courchevel for around 12 years. Fabien Delannoy is passionate about his job & making a difference for the hotel guests. He's partial to the odd thrill-seeking activity in his spare time and has got some great tips for where to eat and drink when you're staying in Courchevel.

Tell us a little bit about your business, how it started out and where you're based...

I’m in charge of the reservations, promotion and marketing at Hotel Les Sherpas. I love to multi task and this job fits very well with my personality, I love to take charge of the guests from their first email until their arrival at the hotel and understand their needs. From early December I’m on site at the hotel in Courchevel and from mid-April I’m in the office in Chambéry. It’s very convenient and I can easily prepare my business trips so as to visit Tour Operators and Travel Agencies all around the world.

How long have you been in your current role and how long have you been with the company?

I've been working at the Hotel Les Sherpas for 12 years and I’m in charge of the reservations and promotions which I've done for 5 years. I really like the family ambiance it is as cozy for the guest as it is for the employees. The Chouet family is close to the guests and the employees, they are really kind and our faithful guests really appreciate this.

What makes Courchevel a special place to be for someone in your profession?

As a multi tasker Courchevel is the ideal place to work, I am used to welcoming all kinds of people from all around the world for family, friend or business trips, well-known or not.

What are the best bits about your job?

The best bits are the contact with the guests and the business trips which help me to understand the differences of culture from all around the word.

And the worst bits?

The fact that the hotel is not open all year long.

What is in store for the future with your business, any exciting projects in the pipelines that you can share with us?

We will be refurbishing the hotel in the forthcoming years and creating a real family ambiance with a special area for the children and a better lounge for friends to socialise in.

What are you personal and professional goals for the future?

I will help the Chouet family to develop this new hotel evolution and advise them!

What's your favourite piste or off-piste area & top tip to go skiing?

Les Suisses and Les Creux are my favourite pistes, I really enjoy on Moriond for the sun and lunch at the Bel Air restaurant, for its amazing views and setting.

Where would send someone who was after that something 'something special' in resort, to stay, eat or drink?

Obviously at the Hotel Les Sherpas, but for the art decoration and the Michelin star restaurant I would advise Le Strato more over they are very kind, to have a drink at L’Aventure, it's very casual and has a great DJ.

Your favourite place for lunch or dinner?

I use to lunch at the Pilatus up the altiport, and for dinner I really love the Grand Café with its amazing Asiatic food, for traditional food I often go to Le Caveau or l’Epicerie in Courchevel Village or Le Petit Savoyard in Courchevel Moriond.

Where will we find the best coffee or hot chocolate?

At La Loze Hotel !!

What has been your best ever day in Courchevel?

I think it was when I did a sky dive and I saw the wonderful view over Mont Blanc.

What's your favourite thing to do in resort when not skiing or snowboarding?

I often walk in the forest, you have a lot of paths and it's very quiet and wild.

What do you do in the summer?

During summer time I work in Chambery, I bike a lot and often go to the lake, and this summer I will learn to Kite Surf.

Which is your favourite shop in resort?

I really love Hold Up in the Forum there always a large choice of clothes and decoration.

Where are we most likely to find you for après-ski?!

For après ski I love to go to the Petit Drink (a wine bar) to have a good glass of wine and eat delicious tapas.

Skiing or snowboarding? What's your preference & why?

I prefer to ski because I am more confident - I tried to snowboard once but it was not a memorable event ;-)
